Griego Classic Trombone/Euphonium Mouthpiece

Description +

Griego Classic Large Bore Mouthpiece (Euphonium Edition)

Bring unparalleled warmth, projection, and slotting stability to your playing with the Griego Classic Large Bore Mouthpiece. While originally engineered for professional orchestral trombone, the Griego Classic series has earned a legendary reputation among elite euphonium players for its incredibly balanced blow, rich overtones, and ability to hold a dense, focused core at any dynamic level.

If you are looking for a mouthpiece that allows your euphonium to sing with a dark, liquid-smooth tone while keeping your low-register clean and your high-register secure, the Griego Classic is the perfect match.

We are proud to offer the premier Griego 4 and Griego 5 sizes, available in both the traditional New York (NY) and high-mass Deco blanks to let you fine-tune your instrument's resistance and response.

Selecting Your Size: Griego 4 vs. Griego 5 for Euphonium

Choosing your cup diameter is the first step in unlocking your instrument’s potential:

  • Griego Classic 4 (Cup Diameter: 1.020" / 25.90mm): A wider, more expansive cup diameter. This size is ideal for strong players who prefer a roomier cup feel to let their embouchure vibrate freely. On euphonium, the 4 produces an incredibly massive, open sound with a thunderous low register, giving you the air capacity to fill any hall.

  • Griego Classic 5 (Cup Diameter: 1.004" / 25.50mm): The definitive standard size for euphonium players. Slightly deeper than a traditional 5G cup, the Griego 5 provides a gorgeous, singing quality in the upper register while keeping the middle range full and resonant. It is highly efficient, making it the perfect all-around choice for soloists and section leaders alike.

Fine-Tuning Your Response: NY Blank vs. Deco Blank

Because the euphonium is a highly resonant, conical instrument, the weight and design of your mouthpiece blank drastically affects how your horn slots, speaks, and projects.

New York (NY) Blank — Vibrant & Flexible (Medium Weight)

  • The Design: This is Griego's standard-weight blank, distributed evenly around the cup.

  • The Euphonium Fit: The NY blank allows your euphonium’s natural voice to shine. It offers a very responsive, flexible blow with quick articulation and a wider palette of tonal colors. It brings out the warm, traditional, and lyrical qualities of the instrument, letting you shape your sound effortlessly.

  • Best For: Players looking for a traditional, expressive euphonium feel, or those who want a mouthpiece that responds instantly to subtle nuances.

Deco Blank — Focused & Powerful (High Mass)

  • The Design: A heavier, high-mass blank that focuses extra weight around the outer body of the mouthpiece.

  • The Euphonium Fit: The Deco blank is a game-changer for the euphonium. The added mass acts as a stabilizer, locking in the slotting of your partials and dramatically cleaning up the low register. It absorbs excess high overtones, ensuring your sound stays incredibly dark, focused, and velvety—even when pushing to triple-forte dynamics.

  • Best For: Players using fast air who want to prevent their sound from spreading, or anyone looking to add extra core, focus, and projection to their horn.
